ABOUT ME

As An Actor, Director & Other Stuff

I began this journey as a 4-year old tap dancer. Then a few years in classical ballet. Somewhere in the midst I found I liked performing and did the usual school and community theatre productions. At some point, I started getting paid. (Yeah, surprised me, too!) More than 100 stage credits, a member of SAG-AFTRA with work in multiple feature films, several major TV series, commercials, industrials, print and voice overs ...

I've learned to smile on cue for the camera, but in addition to playing the tough district attorney or compassionate MD, I really am proud of the dozens of unique characters I have brought to life over many decades on stage. Many of these characters are on the pages that follow.

But I'm not just another pretty face! I've directed a couple dozen stage shows, been a stage manager for plays and musicals, designed lights and sound and many, many sets ... and built many as well. I was the managing director for a professional summer stock theatre company, a box office manager, handled marketing and public relations and negotiated actor contracts.

As An Artist

An actor is truly an artist, but I've worked for many years as one of a dying breed of master calligraphers, completing commissions for government officials, corporations and the occasional bride-to-be! In addition, I’m a commissioned water color artist. You can find all this exciting stuff at www.RickVoightArtist.com. Don’t be shy . . . I’d love to have you visit.

Makeup Stuff

I created a college-level course for stage makeup ... does makeup develop the character or does the character dictate the makeup? I specialize in "characters" ... bloody stuff, aging techniques, facial hair, changing your look to suit the mood. All this is in the pages that follow.

A Coat & Tie?

My look. I wore an expensive suit, white shirt and silk tie for many years. In my 20s, I wandered the halls of our General Assembly in Harrisburg and US Congress in Washington, DC. A lobbyist. A “member of the swamp.” Over a professional life, I worked for years in nonprofit associations as the “number 2” or as the CEO for a couple of major statewide groups, served in a governor’s administration, and in a family art gallery and custom frame shop. Somewhat over educated. A Renaissance kind of life. But an interesting ride.
